De Spanning Tussen Hemel & Aarde (The Tension Between Heaven & Earth)
For my artist residency at AANGAAN earlier this year me and the other artists worked with the theme ‘Tension'.
AANGAAN, part of Fort RuimteTijd, is located in Fort Penningsveer, a rich natural environment with a very unique history. The entire series was made in four days, from concept and photography to installation building with the amazing support of AANGAAN.
I wanted to explore the mythological experience of the landscape. What elicits and inspires this indescribable feeling? How do we read the landscape, and that which we did not understand for most of human history and maybe still don't fully grasp? This is a metaphysical tension that I wanted to explore in my images, one that is experienced vividly during a thunderstorm. By lighting up the landscape I could recreate this unique experience in image.
