Elke Koning Heeft Zijn Dag (Every King Has Its Day)

Captured during a single King’s Day celebration, this series presents street photography from the Dutch Monarch’s birthday. Unique to this day is the way people take ownership of the public space through the vrijmarkt (no permits required) and city-wide street parties. Orange chaos engulfs the streets as national pride becomes an invitation to celebrate. The photos are arranged chronologically, with timestamps down to the second to exemplify how scenes unfold in the heart of Amsterdam.
